Why should this be removed ? It's fair and reasonable IMHO. I wonder if this is a staged photo for the magazine in which case it should say so (although the chuck is still rotating).

It won't be the first time I've seen a tool held wrong in Woodturning. Like Pete says, sometimes the tool is not cutting just a held pose for the photograph.
