Displaying work at Pren
« on: July 07, 2016, 01:51:38 PM »
One of the many things that I have learned since I opened the gallery/shop at Pren, is that the quality of a display has a considerable effect on sales. When we first took out the lease on the premises, the walls were lined with 'Slatwall' paneling, which was coated in simulated beech wood-grain. At the time we didn't have spare funds to replace it all, so we had to make do by making simple white cubes to display bowls on, but I was never happy with that and have at last got around to making a complete new display for the bowl-gallery area.

Thus this.....

....just became this...

It's all made out of 6mm mdf on 20x20 softwood framing, glued and air-nailed together, so it's cheap, quick to make and fairly lightweight. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

Cheers Ed...I think that the key issue is two-fold. Firstly, a white or black background gives excellent contrast to the timber and secondly, a plain background helps the viewer to focus on the subject. It's the same in photographing our work - all too often we see coloured cloths being used to photograph work on, or even work photographed against a very 'busy' background. I've learned not to make thise mistakes any more, b ut certainly made them in my early days.

Looks Great - i see you have used shavings under the slate - good idea,  - you could bag your shavings and sell as mulch or put them in small hessian bags with some oil as smelling pouches for clothes draws.
why do i feel the need to turn a block of wood into shavings?
