Hi George, I like the green beads on this, 2 things I think would enhance the piece would be to keep the (effective) thickness constant and if you were to sand the stain off the sides it would highlight the cut bead edge inviting it to be picked up to see the underside that you wouldn't perhaps notice otherwise.

I like the thickness to vary slightly it takes away the plainness. I also like the green edge just my taste thank you for commenting

George, I think the corners are just a tad thin.

With the grove between the beads it may make the corner too weak and sure as egg's is egg's, someone will pick it up by the corner and brake one off.

Otherwise I love the concept of putting all the beads and colour on the underside.

I like this piece the only thing that disappoints me is that when looking at the second picture before clicking on it looks like the beads are turned from 4 points off of the piece which I liked instead when looking at the enlarged piece they are done from the centre of the piece

I am not sure what you mean Derek do you mean do the outside beads first that would not make any sense.

It is an optical illusion

But the drawing may give you an idea what I mean this is only one edge. and there looks like more rings.

The only way you could do that is with 4 off centre points possible but a bit time consuming.
Might give it a go some time.

It is possible you would have to start with a much bigger blank and turn four circles on four centres and then cut the square out. Or if you wanted to start with the square bowl you could use a temporary back board and turn off four centres not easy but possible

I've been dipping in and out of this thread for a while, then suddenly realised that I hadn't commented. I like the uneven edge, it adds movement through the upward sweep of the edge...it almost looks as though the corners have been stretched out. .... and the colour's lovely.

Les

p.s. .... I can see exactly what Derek is getting at. The first time that I saw this I saw the curves (seemingly) reversed. Derek says that it's just an optical illusion and I agree, but I think it's caused by pixelation.....the resolution of the picture is such that it just creates the illusion. I don't think for a minute that Derek really thought that the curves were reversed. I'm guessing that if other people haven't noticed it, then the reason is screen resolution. I tried doing a screen shot of your picture, George, then I enlarged it and the optical illusion was still there...weird!
