I was given this yew log so decided to turn a natural edge bowl out of a slice of it. I am going to use the other slice as a pedestal bowl so am asking what timber would you use for the stem. all help welcome.

A nice one, Dennis....and I'd say that you were lucky to find a yew log-slice that didn't have radial cracks in it.

thank you Lez.
what timber would you use for a pedestal with this as I have to turn a rose bowl and was going to use the other half of the trunk for the bowl.

... what timber would you use for a pedestal with this ....
...with grain this distinct, it's important that any other timber used with it is low-key, and thus avoids a clash. I'd go with black, or white. African Blackwood, boxwood, sycamore/maple...or you could always ebonise or bleach a suitable timber.
You might just get away with a pale piece of beech, if you have it.....the amber/apricot colour of beech might well go with the stronger orange colours of yew.

Don't usually go for yew but you've done a lovely job here. Really like it.

That's a remarkably round piece of Yew, and the colour is very strong, I think the sweep of the bowl shape is very well done.
As Les says, a dark or ebonised timber for the stem of a pedestal. Possibly Oak rubbed with a rust/vinegar mixture.
