Dragon egg
« on: September 05, 2016, 12:00:44 PM »
A while ago I made a hollow form from a piece of cedar, stained green, with black and gold carved band running around the waist. It sold on its first outing at the Craft and Design experience, so I decided to make another.
The second one was made from ash, a bit smaller, and not having any cracks to play with, and I used orange colours instead of greens. Here's the result. I quite like the "dragon" idea, so I called this one "Dragon Egg", and I am pleased to say that it, too, sold on its first showing to the public last Saturday at the Chatsworth Country Fair.
I think I'll make a few more of these. As usual, all C&C welcome.

For comparison, I've also included a picture of the original piece (which was called "Here be dragons").

Fuzzy,

what can we say, they sell as fast as you can make them, you've caught the public imagination with something new, well done.

Well done Fuzzy, keep making 'em and keep jacking the price up.
By the way, what size are they?

Sizes are about 8" diameter and 6.5" tall for the green form and about 6" diameter and 4.5" tall for the orange one. Yes, it looks like I've hit a patch of paydirt, so I'll carry on.

Very nice indeed. Well turned and decorated I must confess to liking the green colour out of the two

...I must confess to liking the green colour out of the two
...that thought also struck me, but I couldn't rationalise it. Having given it more thought, I came to realise that I it's probably because of my built in caution of stained-colours that resemble wood colours, I always find them a bit contrived. The green, however, doesn't confuse the eye; it's clearly not pretending to be a wood colour, it's just a beautiful green.

p.s. ... I defy anyone to make any sense of what I just said ???
