Cut from a fine piece of oak burr from the eastern side of the Berwyn Hills, and measuring about 18" diameter.

The three dark rings separating the different areas have been scorched, scoured and limed, to give an aged feel to the piece.
The outer ring and the inner circular panel are both convex and have been gilded with gold gilding cream, allowed to harden for 24 hours and then hard-buffed to remove most of the gold. I buffed them with a cotton-wheel that I usually use only for buffing scorched areas, and this not only removed most of the excess gold, but also darkened the surface. these two areas look quite aged, but the gold left in the grain of the burr catches the light if you move past it, and glisten attractively. The wider ring, between these two areas, is concave and has been sealed and waxed with microcrystaline.
