Small Oak Box
« on: December 29, 2016, 11:11:23 PM »
Hi all, first post here for a while, and first time in workshop for a bit as well.  Just to get me back into the swing of things, tonights turned piece is a small Oak box, about 3.5" x 3". A bit of colour added, ebonising lacquer with gold gilt cream.
C & C welcome.

Best Regards  Gary

interesting shape, not my taste i'm afraid but nicely turned.

are you sure that it's oak?

i can't see a single medullary ray...

Many thanks, not a problem about not being your taste, we all like different things.

It is definitely oak, only a very small bit, 3.5" x 3" . I had another piece with medulary rays on it, it is a strange colour though for oak ( it was reclaimed from something if I remember right)

One thing with finialled boxes is getting the balance right between the box and the finial. This one works, it's enough to get hold of but not trying to be too fussy or clever. It sits well on an attractive little box.
