Three legged stools
« on: January 22, 2017, 05:53:45 PM »
As a full-time wood turner I have to accept commissions....their income helps to pay the bills and affords me the time to play with the more artistic stuff. Some commissions can be a bit of a bore, but this particular order has been a joy to work on. A young couple next door to me are getting married in a few weeks and they've commissioned a dozen, three-legged stools in a range of sizes. each stool will be placed at their wedding reception, one for each of the dozen children attending the celebrations, and each stool will be personalised by having their name pyro-engraved on the top, with a little message of thanks underneath. The two youngest children are mere babes-in-arms, so they will each have a tiny, doll's stool, whilst the remaining ten range in size from 7" diameter x 8" high, up to 9" diameter x 12" high. A really great commission to work on.

C&C always welcome....Les

Thank you, George....I'm pleased that you like them.
Les

p.s. ... I keep telling myself that I'm not a spindle turner and that I'm not a copy turner! Doh!

Well what can we say Les....They are all well turned and finished with a simple design and chunky look
which works and sets the spalting off really well
        Kind Regards Tony di

You keep telling yourself that. But remember, it's real turning when you can make the same thing over again.

If you do it for a living, as I have found out, you have to make what people want if you can. Must admit I have turned a few commissions down recently as the customers wanted things that were beyond me. Passed one onto a more experienced turner who also said no thhank you LOL. Copying in my opinion is a dark art.

Turners don't make mistakes, they have design opportunities
