Gouges without handles
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:10:00 PM »
Barry made a comment on Friday along the lines that it's cheaper to buy gouges etc. without the handles and make your own.  After a while spent searching I have been unable to find a source of handleless gouges anywhere let alone local to Norwich. Any help please ?

Thanks again everybody.  As is my experience in other forums there appears to be a group of names, now becoming familiar, who are there with answers. Many thanks.

I think, Nigel, that all the major manufacturers are happy to sell handle-less tools but the retailers shy away from them because they don't look so tempting on the stand.
If you are the Yarmouth side of Norwich you might like to give us at Broadland Woodyturners a look, second monday of the month (tomorrow as it happens) at Martham playing field.
All the best

Hi Nige
We are/were usually based at Martham village hall but some months ago their woodblock floor started to break up so we had to move....hopefully just temporary... to the playing field hall. Sorry you missed last night but next month I will be doing a demo, 'The Finish You Deserve', and you would be more than welcome to come and join in the good-natured heckling.
Where are you based?
All the best
Brian

Thanks Brian.  I had meant to come on Monday night but I have a chest infection which is causing me some gyp :( Getting better I think :) Hopefully get along next month as I am only at Acle.
