A couple of dried-flower/grass vases
« on: March 11, 2017, 03:49:10 PM »
Not my usual line, but I fancied doing something different and saw a shape similar to one of these, on this forum, a week or two ago. The shape inspired me, so I ran with it and this was the result.
The first one is weathered old burr oak with a lime collar, about 24cm tall
The second is green yew with an ebonised oak collar and is 32cm tall. The yew has developed quite a few splits whilst turning, so they've all been ca glued or packed with epoxy.

C&C always welcome ... Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

First one really works for me the second one doesn't.

Les,

They are attractive but I'm not sold on your description. Grass/Weed pots normally have a more rustic feel to them, in keeping with the American version of ikebana.  These stand on their own as decorative items.

Both are up to your usual high standards of workmanship Les

But the Oak one ticks all the boxes for me
