Maen Hir
« on: May 12, 2017, 10:02:01 PM »
Several months ago I made a few sets of sculptural pieces, principally in yew and in sets of three. Each was called a "Maen Hir", after the French term "Menhir", or tall stone. After finishing and selling them all, I made a single Maen Hir in oak, then scorched and lime waxed it, and today I made a second one of these, for a commission order. It's 14" tall x 7" diameter (35cm x x17.5cm) and is heavy. The scorching gives it an amazingly tactile nature.
C&C always welcome...Les

Stone has it's own textures,so any texture you impart to these is important in furthering the impression of a standing stone.

No need to apologise, George, I fully understand that it won't be to everyone's taste, but they've been fun to make, they use of big old lumps of oak, and they sell.

     .
Nowadays LES people are always looking for something different ... And this is certainly different.
Would also think very tactile with the extra texturing.
