Elm / Metal Effect
« on: May 27, 2017, 04:50:30 PM »

Tony's had this piece of Elm for a long time and wanted to make something a bit different. After thinking about it we came up
with this. A mix of Gilding Paste was used to get the metal type effect which as been finished in satin spray and the Elm
in Danish Oil. We have tried to keep it with a sheen rather than a shine. It is 17" x 2 I/2" and as always Turned by Tony.

  Kind Regards Tony & Di

A good sized piece of burr....no wonder Tony held on to it until he had the right project. I like these gilding creams; create enough of a variation to the bare timber while still allowing the grain to show through.
Love it...Les

When you say a mix of gilding pastes do you mean you mixed them up befpore applying or put them on seperately? Whichever the effect is great, enhances the burr not diguises it.

Thank You .. Les .. Pete, took advantage of the weather last week and worked on this outside.

The Pastes  used were Baroque Gilders Paste / Wax..... The base coat is Pinotage ( red ) applied with a brush , then other
colours were brought in and blended as I went along, Hope that makes sense.
   Kind Regards Tony Di

I'm having trouble with this one. I can see the darker band around the rim, but cannot see it as metallic.

As everyone else seems to see it, it must be me, please, what am I missing?

However I can see a wonderful piece of Burr Elm that has been turned to perfection.
