Bargain Lathe in Glasgow
« on: August 01, 2017, 12:27:46 PM »
A lot of lathe for not a lot of money , I have owned several Woodfast lathes and rate them highly

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WOODFAST-C450-woodturning-lathe-Short-bed-variable-speed-1-hp-excellent-condi-/182685847831?hash=item2a88ecd117:g:SJYAAOSw0LxZdnlT

Its a short bed great for faceplate / chuck work and idea for those with space limitations

3 phase inverter , full variable speed , big capacity , He says 9" over the bed but that should read 9" from the lathe bed to the spindle centre giving 18" capacity  :o

Billy bargain  :)

The Woodfasts seems out of fashion at the moment. It's the third one on eBay this year that's been offered at a bargain price and few people seem to bid for them.
Another good bargain is the Tyme Avon complete with Novachuck for £220 on a BIN offer, just the chuck alone is worth £80.

At the other end of eBay you get 'offers' like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Vintage-1950s-Woodworker-Black-Decker-Wood-Turning-Lathe-Drill-Attachment/201980111656?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 which is neither 'rare' '1950s' nor 'well made', I'd be gob smacked if it sold at that price.

Unfortunately too many people have been conned into thinking that if it's on ebay, it must be a bargain. I would go as far as to say several sellers are exploiting that attitude and listing items above RRP. You cannot fault the old adage, "Buyer beware".
