3-Legged Bowl
« on: January 22, 2018, 10:22:45 AM »
I've had this idea buzzing around in my head for a while and made a few prototype legs before I settled on this. My feelings are that I really like the effect of the legs projecting through the bowl and that it has a very retro (1970s ?) look.
This one is made of Beech and African Blackwood, and measures about 11" - 27cm diameter. It's the first of a series that I'll make, as I've a feeling that these will sell!
C&C always welcome....Les

Do the legs actually protrude Les or have you added cabuchons on the top? Whichever I do like it. Lovely clean look about it.

Interesting idea, rather splendid and well implemented.

More 50s or 60s  than 70s though ;-)

Thank everyone for the comments...

Each leg was turned in one piece, then cut into two with a tenon on each so that they locate precisely into a hole in the bowl, one from above and one from below. The tricky bit was making sure that the holes were all drilled at the right angle to splay the legs properly, but I made a jig for that and did it on the drill-press.

...you could well be right. We were very backward with fashion in our house, so the 50s and 60s arrived in the 70s.  ;D

I believe "retro" is currently in fashion, so you may well be onto a winner here.

A very interesting concept Les.... very neatly done... like it a lot..  and  with it only having 3 legs they will
always sit on a flat surface, :) :)

Found it! Les

Glad to say it was not an age thing, just missed it  ;D ;D ;D

I like both of them, but leaning towards the second one for me.

All the best

Ed

Les,

very 'yesterday', so it must be totally 'in vogue', I can see them finding a ready source of buyers.
