Three legged bowl...#2
« on: February 04, 2018, 06:11:14 PM »
Based on the 3-legged bowl that I posted here, several days ago. This one is somewhat larger, being 12" x 4" overall, although the profile also is somewhat different, with the bowl being basically a "V" section with a lightly rounded bottom, and the legs being longer and more slender. A mix of sycamore and rosewood with microcrystaline wax.

C&C always welcome....Les

Reminds me of something and I can't think what. Possibly oriental.....or a flying saucer. Seriously I like it a lot whatever I am trying to think about

As always from you Les very neat and tidy.... the contrasting leg wood really does set the bowl off , but
still prefer the first one.  :)
         Kind Regards Tony di

Like Derek, I think the first one was better, it had more 'balance', I think the legs are a little too near the centre, compared to the first.

That was a difficult decision to make. With the first bowl, which had a curved section, each leg followed the lines of a radius, which tucked the bottom of each leg in, keeping them nicely balanced. However, the second bowl was a straight-sided, V section, so the legs were perpendicular to the side of the bowl, thus the bottom of each leg flared outwards much more. I can see what you're saying about them being a bit close together inside the bowl, but if I'd placed them any further out, the bottom of the three legs would have formed a wider circle than the rim of the bowl, and I think that would have looked bad.
Anyway....this bowl sold immediately (1 hour after being shown on Facebook), whereas the first bowl is sill on the shelf!
