drying wood with dehumidifying crystals
« on: August 15, 2018, 07:39:58 PM »
Some time back I mentioned I was going to try to dry some wood in a sealed container with some dehumidifying crystals. Well I finally got round to it. I set up a box with a shop bought self contained tub of crystals. weighed a piece of pretty dry mulberry and popped it in and sealed the lid. I also weighed a similar piece that I left as a comparison, control piece. The first log weighed approx. 620 gms and the second 640 gms so similar. After 3 weeks in the container 'dryer' I can reveal the results. Bearing in mind these are both now indoors in a dry atmosphere.
The 1st log now 600gms, so yes it dried out 3 ish % and the second control piece now weighs 620gms and yes it also dried out about 3%.
DOH.
There goes that theory.

nice try though...

my theory is that we've been trying these sorts of things for 100's of years so if there was a better way i think we'd be doing it.
