Flower holder ?
« on: November 25, 2018, 12:31:23 PM »
Hi all,

Sometime ago, I bought these two thingumabobs from the discontinued bin
at Turner's Retreat for almost nothing, not knowing what they were but
with the intention of making huge amounts of money from them once I had
discovered their secret. I'm still no wiser, I think they are something to do
with flower arranging but, if they are, I have not the slightest how they would
be used....at the top of a vase ?....hidden at the bottom?.....in sight ?....
real flowers  or imitation ?....just can't kinda see them in my mind's eye......
so, any ideas would be greatly appreciated - thanks for reading

best wishes - Jim

Hmmmm I remember my Mum having something very similar, she would put it in the bottom of a vase and push the cut flower stems onto the spikes to assist holding the display in place. It was always fresh flowers she used, don't know if significant.

Thanks Lazarus,

Yeah, I seem to remember my Mum having something similar.

These items are 'bucket' shaped, so I'm not sure, assuming they
are flower holders, if they are to go into a 'bucket' shaped
cavity in the vase, or if they are just loose fitting. Whether
it's important or not I don't know, but, for their size, they
are very heavy.

weird......thanks for your reply

regards - Jim

They are called frogs and are used in flower arranging as you suspected. Mostly in ikebana and more advanced types as opposed to the chuck them in a vase full of water type of arranging.
