Pen Kits for Fountain Pens

(1/2) > >>

Patrickintheforest:

Using a pen kit I made a Fountain Pen. It worked fine but it ran out of ink sooner than I expected.
I have been informed it was because there is not an airtight seal when you put the top on when not in use and pen kits always have this problem but shop bought pens do not have the problem.
Have you made Fountain Pens?
Do all Fountain Pen kits have the problem?
Someone mentioned an ‘O’ Ring
Are there any Fountain Pen kits that do not have the problem.

Twisted Trees:
I have not made pens for quite a few years, however my wife is still using a fountain pen I made her, and has not had a problem with it drying out.

In the kits I used there was an O ring that sealed between the nib and the back (in hand when writing) section and another that went inside the thread portion of the cap so that should also be mostly airtight.

Patrickintheforest:
Thanks for that Twisted Trees, can you remember the make of kit or alternatively suggest a kit that has the neccessary O Rings ETC.

Twisted Trees:
I got bored with making pens about 8 years ago, so can't remember for certain, I do remember that I imported them from Australia, from http://www.timberbits.com/ but just looked on their site and cant see the pen kit that I used for my wife's pen.

Patrickintheforest:
Thanks again.
I will Google to try to find out more.
Does anybody else have any thoughts/info
