Patriot Chuck - help.....

(1/1)

Dave Atkinson:
Hello

In an unusual fit of cleanliness I thought I'd dismantle and clean my chucks. 8) 8)

SuperNova - no problem and now lovely smooth action.  ;D ;D

Patriot - lovely and clean - but you've guessed it I can't get it back together.  :-[ :-[  I bought it second hand and I haven't got a manual.  Doesn't seem to be one to download from Sorby, who have ignored my email.  :o

And the rubber band broke some time ago - I never worked out why they had a rubber band but still...

I know it will be easy when I know how.

Looking forward to your replies.

Cheers Atco

Turners cabin:

I will contact Sorby on Monday for you
The rubber band is there as far as i know for three reasons
1 to keep dust out of the chuck as for some reason as they spin the create a vacuum
2 to soften the edges of the chuck holes
3 to remind you were you got it from and that it was made in the UK; D
i have never had to take mine apart in the three years i have had it

Dave Atkinson:
Hello Ian

Thanks for your kind offer.

I tried again today and after a bit of messing around I've got it all back together and it works much better than before.

Thr moral of the story is "number the jaws and their relative position before you take it apart" :-[ :-[

Cheers Dave

Paul Hannaby:
I try not to let the relatives near my workshop anyway!  ;D

Dave Atkinson:
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
