Loving these especially the hollow forms, they look so light and balanced with the grain.

Very nice indeed George , it just goes to  show what superb stuff can be made from small dia wood that would probably end up as firewood  !  I used to make quite a few like this from various woods , esp Laburnum , Yew and Robinia , but my main outlet found them a bit fragile for handling ( by customers ) and for wrapping and packing . My bible for turning when i first got into turning seriously was  Woodturning a new approach by Robert Chapman which I still consider to be the best book on the subject , and he made small HF's very similar to these as I also have and still do on occasion ... in fact I will tomorrow I think ....   Terry ..

George,

it's really good to see you posting turnings other than your normal work.

You've really captured the shape and essence of Robinia in these, well almost, for me the last form is a little too small for it's rim.

Superb forms, George. I could spot these as yours even if they'd been posted anonymously.

The two wing bowls are especially good. Turning them so thin and even takes supreme control. Top marks.

The only one that I'm not so keen on is the last. Like Dragonfly I think the body is a little slim for the natural edge diameter.

But I'd gladly give shelf space to any of them.

keep 'em coming!

Hi George,
A beautiful selection, I'm very fond of Acacia and you've produced some stunning examples here.

Thank you for your comments.
I agree that the last piece looks out of proportion, this was caused by the freshly cut acacia having a very wide rubber like cambium layer between the bark and the solid wood. I had to remove it before I could form the body of the piece so the body is a smaller diameter than I would have liked. When I was cutting thru it to form the natural edges I found that I had to have my gouge razor sharp to get a clean transition.

I always think this wood is among the most beautiful of timbers, it works nicely and polishes nicely and when turned as you have done it looks stunning.
