Laburnum n/e dish
« on: October 17, 2014, 11:08:26 AM »
I recently bought short logs of air-dried laburnum. This is the first piece that I've worked.

It's a little over 10" long and 8" wide, with quite wormy sapwood, finished with cartnauba.

C&C always welcome....Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Yep, the worm loves the stuff and looking at it you are quite lucky as the sapwood can also crack quite a lot while drying as well.

Having said that I had to look twice (having totally missed the first image) to actually realise I was looking at a turning - sorry Les, the angles you picked makes it look like you were showing the timber you'd bought.

However having now seen the first image and realised it is a bowl, you've found an interesting shape in it and finished it and delivered it well.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Very striking. I really like that.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
