I particularly like the blend of the colours in the orange bowls, it gives the form more depth and interest. Not so fussy on the greens, they seem a little lifeless by comparison, certainly don't have the vibrancy of the oranges. Also, I painfully aware of just how good the finish has to be off the gouge to get stain to look that even, but then, we'd expect nothing less from you, George.

p.s. ... that workshop needs dusting! ;)

Thank you Les .

Macrocarpa is a very soft wood so yes the tooling has to be good or doing too much sanding will rip out all the soft grain. It is also a bit like Yew if it gets hot you get heat checks

The red ones are the most popular I probably sell three of the red to one of the green.
My workshop is disgusting and needs a good clean the trouble is I have Gallery's crying out for stuff so I am going to have to get stuck in for a day or two.
I am not teaching until next Thursday so I will have a spring clean before then.

I was given a few discs of it that were from a tree that had been cut down a couple of weeks previously and they all split quite a bit from the centre out. They were quite thin, about 5 - 6 inches each though so whether that is the norm I couldn't say.

What I bought was all 3" thick 8 feet long and about two feet wide and had been in a shed for several years.

Out of the group George we both prefer the green one at the back.......it tends to stand out more.

I like the bowl and in particular the colors. Can you tell which stains you use? Whould you consider these just decorative or also functional?
Thanks.
