Buddleia - for Pete
« on: April 24, 2015, 05:50:43 PM »
Pete,

You said in a post a while ago the only wood you could not find something to do with was Buddleia.

Best I've ever managed was mushrooms, thin stuff becomes Ink Caps, bigger stuff I slightly dome, cut off and mount on a stem of the thin stuff.

Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

I like the rustic look of these a lot. Not keen on the pristine ones that some people turn. Every piece of buddleia I have got my hands on of this diameter was like a bundle of straws so must have been getting a bad batch. I'll stop saying no thank if offered it now I have seen some that is of use.

Bryan Pete may like it but I am afraid I do not think this is your best work.

John,

I'll not argue with you on that statement.

Pete hit it on the head when he said it was like turning a bundle of straws. Look at the tear out on the top of the Flats.

Not mushroom for improvements there, could it be shabby chic ..

Not being a mushroom fan these seem to have a bit more about them.

I think that I'll steer clear of turning Buddleia

yes Buddleja( this is the correct spelling for it by the way )can be a pain to turn, its  like turning Balsa wood, super sharp tools required if you don`t want any tear out on end grain, but it can be done,so perseverance chaps and  you`ll get a smooth surface on end grain Buddleja.
