Oak Bowl with Split
« on: July 03, 2016, 04:32:01 PM »
Here is an oak Bowl with a large split. The oak came from a large piece I got at a wood recycling centre. It was old and very hard, it more spat out shrapnel than shavings.

It's 9" x 2¾” (225mm x 70mm)

C& C welcome.

cracking bowl... (pun intended)

i've just been turning some rock hard oak like that and know exactly what you mean about the shrapnell.

mine has come from a 30-40 year old beam from the underside of a porch and although 6" thick is bone dry.

the advantage of old wood is that you seem to be able to get a much better finish in my opinion...

So, George, oak is like life....the older it gets, the harder it gets.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
