An interesting piece of wood

A friend of mine recently gave me what he thought looked like an interesting piece of wood. It was piece of limb crotch from an old and long dead blackwood tree. The shape lent it self to turning a vase and I was keen to try out the new Munro Hollower so here it is.
Height is 180 mm and diameter 120; hollowed through the base; finished with Rusting Danish Oil and polished with eee.
Will give the vase to friend's wife, want to encourage his wood fossicking behaviour.

A beautiful piece of wood, indeed, and the depth of colour is to die for.

A lovely piece of wood and I personally like the fact that it has a hole in it. Les

Thanks Les and Dragonfly. I also love the character of pieces turned from wood with knots, voids, grub holes, occluded bark and other "defects". Although it does make the turning a bit harder and finishing takes more sanding.
