Hive Mind Question 1
« on: May 29, 2018, 12:08:07 PM »
Folks,

I bought out the contents of a retiring turners workshop, there are a couple of things I'm not sure about.

This is the first, I think its a Ball Turning Jig but if I'm right it only does one size, the hole through the top part is 3/8" x 1/4".

Do you know what it is otherwise.

Small hollowing rest for a specific tool.

Maybe part of a sphere cutting jig.

Hi, it’s an old sphere cutting jig. It took a tool similar to a bedan but was just ground like a scraper.
Cheers

Michael,

thank you for that, I sort of figured that's what it was but needed confirmation from someone that had seen one before.

I assume that the size of the sphere is adjusted by the length of the toll sticking out.

I'll give it a go sometime. I do have a piece of tooling HSS the right size to fit the through hole.

That is what I have for the one I want to make. I have also seen it used in other peoples jigs as to use a turning tool it would stick out too far
