Clutch Pencil
« on: March 15, 2019, 11:51:31 AM »

Hi All,

I'm a great fan of clutch pencils and use one most of the time. I've
made a few propelling type pencils but, quite honestly, the leads
are so thin that they are virtually unusable.

So... the question is...does anyone know of any clutch-pencil type
kits using, say, a 2mm lead ?

Thanks for reading , regards - Jim

I use something like this, it's a 4mm pencil.
No idea if they do a kit for sketching pencils though I'm afraid.

There is this from Penn with a 5.6mm lead which I like (the 'pen' is just a biro the same shape as a lead that you can insert)
https://www.pennstateind.com/store/PKSPCL2BT.html

Pencrafts UK used to stock this but seem no longer to.  Turners Retreat stock a similar 'workshop sketch pencil' with the same mechanism but no clip and a rather silly brass ring part way down the barrel that complicates assembly (because the ring is too small to pass the mechanism through).  You perhaps might use a longer brass tube and omit the ring.

I got some last year from penkitsdirect.com but they were psi kits. They don't appear to be stocked any longer but no harm giving them a call. The number if have is 01924 489170. Pen State Industries part no PKSPCL Sketch Pencil

Hi Derek, thanks for that. I might give it a go.

I've kinda got a thing about clutch pencils - a bit worrying......

Thanks again, best regards - Jim
