I know some members will think I am being a 'grumpy old man' but I thought I should go ahead, as this post set some alarm bells ringing. I hope the forum isn't too hard on me
We all like to get hold of wood but this post sounds like someone trying to get a tree felled for free. Ok, so he's 'giving away' the timber, but is that a fair offset for having the tree felled, and disposed of? My local tree surgeons charge around £200 for a medium sized tree. Will the resulting wood be worth that?
I can see it being very tempting for an amateur to have a go at felling it, but be very careful, and remember a tree surgeon has to have insurance in case anything goes wrong. Trees are heavy, even small ones, and don't always behave as you expect. How do you stand if you damage something?
And another thought, from the description, there isn't much trunk, so the bulk of the timber will be stressed and may be problematic to turn. Will your costs and liabilities be worth it?
I would suggest the owner has the tree professionally felled and then tries to dispose of the wood. That is safer all round.
I'll go back to my workshop now.
