What sort of birds? We get some ceramic ones from a lady who makes them. Ours are small ones to go anto hair pins so may be too small for your purpose though. I can get her email for you though if you want to check.

I had been searching for miniature birds, and got nowhere, but changing the search on ebay, into 'artificial birds' paid dividends.

Several years ago I had trouble locating a source of these miniature birds and eventually bought them very cheaply from Hobby Lobby in the States. Surprisingly realistic they are too.
They are still available from them, see http://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-%26-Hobbies/Dollhouses-%26-Miniatures/Miniatures/Miniature-Birds/p/21868.  Amazing value at $2.99 + carriage for 12 birds, size 25mm wide x 12 high.
